Bibimbap – Korean Mixed Rice Bowl

A colorful bowl of Bibimbap combines rice, seasoned vegetables, savory beef, and a spicy-sweet gochujang sauce. This iconic Korean dish not only represents harmony of flavors but also reflects the Korean tradition of bringing diverse ingredients together into one nourishing meal.

Ingredients

  • Cooked rice – 밥
  • Carrot (julienned) – 당근 (채썰기)
  • Spinach – 시금치
  • Bean sprouts – 숙주나물
  • Zucchini – 애호박
  • Shiitake mushrooms – 표고버섯
  • Ground beef – 다진 소고기
  • Soy sauce – 간장
  • Sesame oil – 참기름
  • Garlic – 마늘
  • Egg – 달걀
  • Gochujang (Korean red chili paste) – 고추장
  • Sesame seeds – 깨


Steps

  1. Prepare rice and set aside.
  2. Blanch spinach and bean sprouts separately, season lightly with salt, sesame oil, and garlic.
  3. Stir-fry carrot, zucchini, and shiitake mushrooms with a little oil until tender.
  4. Cook ground beef with soy sauce, garlic, and sesame oil until fully done.
  5. Fry an egg sunny-side up.
  6. In a large bowl, place rice at the bottom, arrange seasoned vegetables, beef, and egg on top.
  7. Serve with a spoonful of gochujang and mix before eating.


Tips

For a vegetarian version, skip the beef and add more mushrooms or tofu.

For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free soy sauce and check the gochujang label.

Top with extra sesame oil and roasted seaweed for enhanced flavor.
